[we’re fired up. We’re talking Michigan football. Dude, I got a I got a new favorite TV show. I love it.

It’s called Squatters.

I never I saw it by accident and man, I just love this guy. He goes He kicks these people out.

Yeah, I’ve seen that guy’s got some He knows what he’s doing, man. He goes by the law. I would I would strongly encourage folks to take a peek at squatters. It’s good.

But, always good, dude. How you doing, man?

Yeah, it’s that show kind of freaks me out a little bit as somebody that has a second home. I inherit it from my parents, but it’s a thousand miles away down in North Carolina. So, the thought of having a squatter move in there just makes me uncomfortable.

Yeah. Other than that, we’re doing great.

Yeah. I had I was a landlord for a minute. I never had to deal with it. But anyway, that’s that. do a lot of good things happening with recruiting Whit and his crew and his staff and the program. we’ve got 13 good commits. We’re we’re recruiting good players.

We’re beating good players or we’re beating big-time schools for some for these players, which is, you know, what you is what you want to do for sure.

You know, you don’t want to beat come down to us in you know, North Carolina State. We want to beat Notre Dame for kids. We want to beat USC for kids. We want to beat Texas A&M. And speaking of Texas A&M, you know, I looked at Woodson’s kid. Okay.

You know, they got him as a three star because you know what? Every a lot of big schools offered him. Texas A&M off Texas A&M, that guy’s a good coach. They ain’t no joke. So, Woodson’s kid is a player. He’s an athlete. I took a look at him on film and he, you know, he can be the real deal, man.

Who are some of the guys you looked at?

So, getting to Woodson real quick. he plays safety, right? And so, safety’s probably not, you’re not going to get too many five-star guys out of there, four-star guys, you know what I mean?

That’s a that’s a position that’s probably, you know, they look at the edge, they look at the corners. They’re not looking at inside linebackers and safeties as their top prospects. Those are just good athletes. I mean, if they can if they can hit, great. if they can run defend the pass. I don’t think safeties and linebackers are really too many of them are going to be four or five stars. But the one that stood out to me was Quinton Burrell. good size goodiz receiver, but if Ohio State offers you as a wide receiver, you got the chops, right? I mean, that’s that’s become wide receiver you. They’re putting guys in the league. they’re getting the number one, you know, high five-star guys. So, if you got recruited and offered by Ohio State as a wide receiver, that’s a that’s a player. So, I’m excited about that guy. and then Xavier Muhammad, you’re going to talk about him, but my goodness, 6’5, 275 pound junior and plays basketball and he’s a shot putter on the on the track team. I love well-rounded athletes. That’s why I like Mason Graham so much. That guy was an all-state wrestler and a great football player. I love that, man.

Yeah, Muhammad is something. I mean, this kid looks he’s you know, they got him 265, 2, whatever, but the kid runs like he’s 225.

He don’t look like he’s 265, right?

He plays tight end and he looks like he could be an all Big Ten type tight end type kid. He looks like a Colston Loveland athletic type kid.

who he could put him at the end of a line of scrimmage and block down on a defensive tackle if they decide to play him at tight end, but then you look at him on defense and he could be, you know, he could be Derrick Moore on defense is what you’re seeing.

So, he’s I was excited watching this kid. I see all the hype. I see all the reason for it. And you know, dude, I some of some of my old teammates when I talk about the Schembechler philosophy, they don’t always agree with me, but I think this was Bo’s philosophy. Let’s take Muhammad for example. I think Bo’s philosophy is I’m going to recruit the biggest, baddest, toughest, most athletic two-way football players that are out there. If he’s a guy like Chris Howard who’s a stud linebacker and a stud running back or a doer he’s a great defensive lineman and a great defense offensive lineman. I think Bo said I’m going to see if they can play defense first. Right.

There’s so many guys I played with that’s what that was the deal. Stefan Humphries, let’s see if he can play defense. Okay, if it doesn’t work out, we’ll make you a guard. But anyway, I don’t know what they’re going to do with Muhammad, but you look at him, he could play either side of the ball. And I again, that was that’s what I think Bo’s philosophy was. I don’t know what they have planned for him.

I mean, he you know, I’m really fired up for him, though.

Well, you had kept talking about the jumbo tight end, right? Well, if this guy’s that athletic right now, I think they’ll probably start him out at that tackle, you know, maybe a five tack. We’re going to see some things on film here and you watch what they’re doing right now, which I had not seen in a while. this is the kind of athlete that’s going to fit into this and you’re going to watch and I’ll point it out when we get to it on the film, but you’re right, a guy that’s athletic that can play he maybe he’s that jumbo tight end you’re talking about because he’s so athletic.

Yeah.

So, get him on campus, get him working out with Coach Elisa and you know, go from there. But you’re right. Get the best athletes. Get the toughest guys. Yeah. And you’ll find a spot for them.

But you’ve just got to be fired up because we’re we’re we’re recruiting good players. We’re beating good people for good players. And you know, we got a chance to meet a bunch of the coaches and see what’s going on down there. And I and I got recruited by a lot of people, man. And I could just visualize myself going in as a 18-year-old kid with my parents, meeting that crew down there and feeling really good about the people that Whittingham has surrounded there. So, I’m fired up about what we’re selling. I’m I’m I’m really happy about the what how we’re doing so far. but one other kid that is also is Darius Johnson from California. We went in there in LA area and got a four-star kid. great player right out of right from US under USC’s know. So, right. Yeah. And UCLA who like you said earlier in the last episode that we did, UCLA is doing really they’re number three or four in the team rankings and we got this guy right under their nose.

So, it’s good that we’re we’re national we’re nationwide. We’re beating good people and the mo I think we have great momentum right now and I think that Whittingham put together a st look Michigan’s Michigan’s easy to sell.

Okay, but you still got to have the when a kid but when you’re recruiting against Notre Dame and Ohio State and these people you know what’s the difference man? What do we have that’s that we’re standing out that we’re getting these guys and it’s it’s happening. So, it’s impressive to me if you look. So, Bell’s from Chicago, Johnson’s from California, Tyson Robinson, we forgot to mention him, four-star running, a four-star running back out of Mississippi. he had an offer from I think every SEC team and we got him up to Ann Arbor. That’s impressive. Muhammad out of Houston, Texas, and then Woodson out of Florida. You’re right. This is nationwide now and obviously NIL helps that crew that we have running that office is doing a great job because they’re pulling guys in and I you know I would love one day to find out what the secret sauce is and what the recipe is because you got a certain amount of money and you have to pay the returning guys, right? Yeah.

But you do they’re paying for these recruits something.

I’d be I’d love to find out what that formula is. but whatever it is, like you said, Michigan’s selling something and these guys are buying it and they’re up to, I think, 16th right now. You had mentioned we had 13 recruits or commits for 2027. What I read today was we have 17. We’re up to number 16 in the class. And there’s two guys that are supposed to announce this weekend on Friday and on Sunday. And if those two fall our way, we’re gonna be in the top 10.

Yeah. Hey, look, it’s it’s just like playing it’s just like playing foot playing offense, defense, you know, putting your recruiting pitch, your recruiting your Peloquin and the in the NI and the leadership, you know, everything has to be right.

Dude, I went on a lot of recruiting trips, man. I went on six. We could go out six back then. And you don’t want any weak links in your sales promotion to a kid and his parents, you know what I mean? And u I it’s good. It’s it’s proven that it’s good because we’re getting these guys committed. And I just want that really that’s all we had other than the film is that there’s a lot of optimism and a lot of momentum and there’s there’s some good players we’re bringing. Any other final thoughts on anything else from recruiting, D? Yeah. Well, I you know, and I wanted to talk about and I Dang it. I left my notes.

I know you wanted to talk about the basketball kid.

Yeah. The kid from the kid from Denmark. Yeah, that’s right.

72 7 foot2 recruit. And I’m terrible because I think it’s Møller or Right.

Yeah. I Well, anyway, in January, that boy was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

and just recently, whether it was today or yesterday, he announced on his social media that he is cancer-free.

And I don’t care if this kid was going to our rival or someplace down south, I don’t care.

To have cancer as a 17 or 18 year old kid is devastating. Cancer is terrible as it is, but when you’re young, athletic like that, and you get that at that age, for this guy to announce that he’s cancer-free, that really is heartwarming just from a human a human standpoint.

And I wish him all the best. I hope he lives a just a perfectly normal, healthy life, long life. And I’m happy to hear that he’s that he’s cancer-free and looking forward to having that guy in campus. 7. He’s a real good player and it’s good for him now to be able to play in practice against, you know, Thiam, how do you say the big kid we got from Kansas to Oh, yeah.

You know what I mean? But now we have two sevenfooters. So, it’s it’s it’s great for them. People don’t think about that stuff, but coaches do. You got two big sevenfooters that can challenge each other in practice, right?

Get them both ready for when they got to play sevenfooters against the opponent.

Yeah. Look what I mean the same thing he did with Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf you know couple big tall guys come in there as transfers and work on each other work on each other’s game compete and you know had great success both I think both are in the NBA now I know Danny Wolf with Brooklyn earlier in the year was doing really well I don’t know I don’t know what Vlad was doing yeah okay so Fowler-Nicolosi is supposed to be coming in here in June we haven’t heard anything yet but he’ll have plenty a time to get acclimated and figure out what we’re doing. And I’m sure he’s been looking at film and getting on the phone with people to get as much as possible squared away. But you we’re going to have some we’re going to have some competition in that quarterback room and but he’s coming in June.

Good. Well, it’s you know, the more the marrier and not just more bodies, but more qualified bodies. This guy’s got a lot of games under his belt and so he’s going to come in here and compete.

I don’t think he’s looking to compete for second place. I know that.

Yeah. All right. Do anything else before we get on the film?

We’re probablyund 10 days, something like that, from opening day from the from toe meets leather against Western Michigan at the Big House. And something days. Yeah. And it’s starting July now. Do they start in July now?

No. We started in August. Three weeks before the first game is when we started.

I talked to Dick Kettman, the guy that played in 1957.

They didn’t start until school started or No, school didn’t start until like he said midepptember or something or No.

Yeah, he didn’t. Anyway, he they weren’t No, he didn’t he wasn’t doing anything in August. That’s something.

Yeah, it’s a it’s now they got these guys coming in and Anyway, how we looking? You got the film up? Yeah. Got the film.

You got the You got the big screen. Got the big screen.

Okay. So, we looked at this play last week. We ended up here. Yeah.

And we’re going to go through about like maybe 15 16 plays and try to find some diamonds in the rough. We’re going to try to find some guys that you know, we’ve heard their name and or look at what we think about some of these young guys.

And we’re big on we’re big on Palepale.

We’re seeing his improvement athletically. We he keep he continues to shine.

You’re going to see him. You’re going to see him right here on this play.

Yeah. So here, you know, again, we were This is not new for Michigan fans who understand defense. We wink all our last three coordinators ran a lot of 51 stuff. So here’s the 5-1 look. you got the big nose guard in there and the play we run here is the stuff that Orji ran a lot of, but we Jim used to put J.J. in when he was a freshman and ran the hell out of this play. This could be a play. This could be some stuff that maybe he brings if he’s confident and doesn’t want to run Bryce. But anyway, we ran this defense. Let’s look at this is this conflict play. Quarterback is reading the edge player. They put him in conflict with, you know, is he kicking out or is he pump faking and coming out here? That’s everybody’s running that with the tight end. but he’s got to read this thing and I thought this was good by our running back. You know, he gets hit, they read it, and he’s still dragging guys for five yards. But anyway, this play is tough to defend. He’s got quarterback’s got to make a good read on it because he’s reading he’s reading this guy.

and he’s dragging a young guy 33 in there a little bit.

So 30 33 is catchings. All right. So you saw where they’re going to replay this right here real quick. You’re going to watch you’re going to watch Patterson.

Watch Patterson. He’s in the three tech right there.

Yeah. This is Patterson right here. And Yep. So watch him hold off Link here. He’s gonna sink his hips. He’s going to keep his base and he’s going to lock out that arm to defeat this, right? Yeah.

So, everybody’s in a good position there. Catchings, you know, he’s a young guy, but he plays this right. But what I wanted to point out is watch the next play. So, Catchings was on the edge, right? Yeah.

Watch the next play and see where he’s lined up.

Yeah. Well, see, this is a young guy that do Yeah. He’s he’ll learn. He’s got to bring his butt. He’s got to bring something with it, man. He’s getting dragged.

Got to keep those Yeah. Got to keep them mov So, pause this for a second. All right.

So, you had the same personnel. We were in a 51 nickel the last play. All right.

We have the same personnel out there, but Catchings is now lined up as a linebacker. He’s on the hash on the far hash.

We haven’t seen that in a while.

Yeah. Three. We didn’t run. Neither of those guys rant. We haven’t seen this ever. Two down linemen, one stand up. Like this is like a 335 look.

Yep. Exactly.

Yeah. We haven’t seen that ever from our last three coordinators.

No, we have not. We saw this again with Rodriguez, but they didn’t know how to coach it. But catchings there. I mean, this is just pretty amazing that guy was on the end of the line the previous play. Then on this play, he’s at a linebacker at linebacker depth.

It’s a pass play. And watch his drop.

You can’t see it on this, but he gets right. He has a number two receiver in the slot and he drops back, gets depth and width and he cuts off that route, so he can’t get Well, dude, you know, dude, look, you and I played we called them outside backers then. We were edge players, but you know, I always felt it was the best position to have played to go into coaching as a defensive player because as an outside backer, edge player, you got to you got to you got to drop in coverage, you got to cover backs, you got to play hook to curls, you got to play the flat, you got to run with wheel routes, you got to rush to quarterback, take on guards, tackles, tight, you know what I mean? You got every sing play double teams. But no, he if you’re going to play that position, I think in Michigan’s defense, some of these some of these hybrid edge type deals, they want guys that can do a lot of different things, you know.

Yeah, man. That’s that’s pretty impressive for a kid to go from the edge to the linebacker spot and do them both fairly well.

Yeah. So, anyway, we’re in this same 335. Look, these guys are more like four techniques, I think, or three I you know, they’re they’re they’re BAP they’re B gap players on run. but if pass shows they’re going to work outside for contain. It’s pretty much how they coach that.

Yeah, but that is a you look at 93 there.

That’s Patterson. He had he’s going to have two good plays here. He So I’m curious on this. He just blows these guys up. He destroys the play because the wyback the guy who was lined up on the, you know, on the outside of the right tackle off the line, Hoffman there, he couldn’t do anything. Patterson just blows this play completely up and then your boy Palepale is right there to clean up.

Well, you know, if you’re going to run this play, this tackle has to get off the ball or you know, they’re double teaming the nose. You either double the three or you know, obviously they think they need to help on this the nose the Palepale, but the tackle better get off the ball. I mean, let’s look at our left tackle here. He’s got to get his head across the B. He was not getting off the ball. You’re going to go against this dude. You can’t That’s That’s not happening. Nope.

But I like that scheme there. So they have an aggressive edge player there. He’s going to knife in. And the linebacker who’s basically an overhang player, he’s got outside. He’s got outside contain. I like how What about this guy here? There’s my boy right there, Kerry Coombs.

Dude, I go way back with him, man. I’ve known this guy since 85. He brings the juice, man.

He’s 60 some years. Look at him fired up, yelling at people.

He’s got He’s like Jerry Hanlin. An endless amount of energy.

You know, the special teams I was just reading they’re changing some of the special team rules. They’re gonna I don’t if you We’ll get maybe we’ll get into that another time, but let you take this.

We’re talking about that and the Big Ten teams voted 18 to nothing. Yeah. They want to keep it. So they want to keep it so we can do stuff. You got to coach.

You want to punt, man. I was not going to give up punting. Are you crazy?

Yeah. So, you want to tell our Okay, real quick. Do you want to tell our listeners what some of the rule conts were on the special teams?

I did not read them all.

Okay. Basically, what they want to do is I’ve noticed this last year more than anything, coaches are smart coaches, man. they’re going to continually try to screw the opponent. So, what they’re doing is they’re coaches have been taking the punt formation and using it like an offensive football play with multiple formations, multiple shifting, multiple player personnel groupings, and they’re really trying to screw the punt return team, which I think is good. You got a coach, man.

Outsmart them.

Smart. If you don’t like what they’re doing, figure it out. Anyway, I guess guys were complaining that there’s too much BS on the punt teams. So, the they’re they’re they’re going to try to get make it easier to defend the punt is what they’re doing. The NCAA is getting involved with it. And so that’s what’s happening.

The coaches in the Big Ten said screw that. You don’t like what guys are doing, learn how to defend it. That’s and that’s I’m down with that. Yeah. So, here take this play here.

All right. So here, u I like this Brown’s patience right here. All right, 29. He’s a freshman, I believe. he waits, but Link, I got to give credit to Link, man. He comes pulling from the backside tackle position now. He gets a little too much depth, right? I would like to see him stay one yard instead of two, but he’s got to get around that kickoff block from the that guy’s supposed to log him. That guard’s supposed to log that end guy. And then Link’s supposed to go around that and get the get the next guy wearing the opposite helmet. And so he does this.

This is a good move by Len. He shows some pretty good athleticism for a big guy. And then Brown there makes a great cut. Really good vision and patience there. and picks up the picks up the yards. That was a that was a nice play.

Yeah, that was well executed, well blocked. You know, they got to read that thing. You pull those two big fellas. You pull these two big fellas on the backside, they’re reading each other. You know, if this guy splatters it, then he’s going to and then, you know, wrong arm it and he’s going to come outside. If he if he goes up field, we used to call it kick a comer, hook a hanger. All right.

And our that was our terminology for our line. You know, you know what I mean? Do So, if this guy comes, you kick him out, right?

Kick a comer. If he’s hanging, you hook a hanger. That’s that was our terminology. over at Clintondale High School, we used to call it logging. Log supposed to get around him. But you know what? It worked out. And Link did his job.

Brown’s patience picked up the yards.

That was, you know, you watch these guys practice, do they? They do it mo they do it in their sleep reading that thing together collectively. You know, how is that?

That’s not an easy block, man, for a big tackle to come all the way around like that. All right, here we go. We got I’m looking at who the personnel is. You’ve got 88. he’s in the game blocking.

Yeah, that’s Tanelli. And then next to him is 42 Hoffman. This is a Yeah, this is a big ask of Hoffman. You’re going to try and have Hoffman block this block this defensive lineman and it, you know, he does a pretty good job only because Patterson leaks inside. He peaks inside and gets caught.

You know, D, I think that’s how these guys are. I think though I’m looking at this defense and I’m thinking, you know, I think he’s a C gap player.

Yeah.

And I think he’s a I think he’s a D gap player out here and then they’re hoping So you have to be a gap player.

So you do, but you can’t you can’t get too nosy. See how I mean he does all right, but he Yeah, I like this tackle here, dude. I like I don’t know who the hell this guy is.

I have to look his name up. I mean, he’s a young guy, but look at the this Jordan Young. Oh, Jordan Young is great.

I mean, look at this tackle.

Look at this. Watch him come up and tackle.

That’s how you That’s how you get in the Look at that. Yep. That’s how you get in the mix, man. Yeah, he’s got a nose for the ball.

No doubt about it. Sophomore, 6 foot, 195 out of North Carolina. Yeah, there must have be something about number six because Hillman had that number last year, right? He did. That looked like Hillman coming up.

Here’s one back. D down. Is it second down? Second and goal.

I kind of thought this was a tell. Dude, I’m I’m looking at, you know, again, we played this position and you’re reading you’re reading everything about the quarterback.

I was just I’m gonna let you take it though. So, I was thinking the same thing because Patterson there who now is playing on the edge. You know, the previous plays he was inside, now he’s on the edge and he’s knifing in and I think that they I think this is, hey, if you see this formation, you go blow that mesh point up and make the quarterback keep it because we got overhang players that are going to take him if the quarterback keeps it. So, I think I was wondering, you know, did this guy just knife in like that on his own? No, I think it’s a read. the tackle blocks down, he’s going to come in and blow that play up.

And if they if Carr would have made a mistake and gave the ball to the running back, Patterson’s tackling him for a loss. If Carr keeps it like he does here, he’s got no room because we have enough overhang players out there.

Okay, here do here’s what I’m talking about that I’m looking at as a as a guy who played option as a player and coached defended a lot of it. Yeah, I’m looking at this quarterback, everything he does on how he’s reading this thing. And I thought Tommy put it he didn’t ride the mesh real long. You know what I mean? When I see that short ride, well, I’m gonna blame that on I’m I’m going to blame that on his eyes are on this guy coming at him with his ears pinned back.

I But you know what I’m saying? I’m just I’m just looking at the little things because I know if I’m if I’m and we do this as players and coaches, I’m looking at how long is he riding this thing and he’s not riding it long at all. That can be a tell that to say he’s not giving the dang football. You know what I mean?

Right. Well, I again I’m going to I’m going to stick with he didn’t have time to run that fake out because Patterson was coming fast.

Well, that’s why we’re looking at this stuff. We could we could disagree, man.

we, you know, or but anyway, let’s let’s look here. they’re running bubble.

It’s third and goal, and Michigan’s defense really defends this well. I like 94. The hell is his name? He runs well.

Marshall. Yep. Yeah.

I tell you one thing about Marshall does a good This is good instincts by Marshall here.

You know something? You know something else d on this? One thing one thing Bryce does really well I if you time how quick it Bryce gets this ball out of his hand.

Wow for sure Bryce throws this bubble quick. Tommy is you know this is let’s get this ball there man.

Yeah a little off mark little late but good job. somebody’s coming up tackling. Who is this? I thought Nate Marshall did a good job. And then it’s Max Reyes 39 who comes up. Yeah, I got I got him circled here.

Yeah, he’s a You know who I like too down here do as this kid’s highly recruited. Earless. Yeah, Shamari Earls.

I like how he’s smashing this receiver up, keeping outside leverage.

And it’s well defended. Ball’s got to be thrown faster. Ears is taking this kid, smashing him. There’s nothing there. Outside contain, inside contain, and then the safeties in the alley. that’s good defense. quarterback’s got to throw it faster.

I’m a big fan of Cover 2 defense. I used to run it almost exclusively when I was coaching. But, you know, you can’t do it all the time. Although Iowa runs almost all too high safeties. And hey, dude, this ain’t like playing in the backyard where you can grab the strings. Watch how he throws the where he throws the football.

Yeah. He doesn’t have time to get the strings.

Nope. And we used to tell our quarterbacks when they had this play, you don’t have time to find us. Just throw the ball. Yeah.

Get it and throw it.

Yeah. So, anyway, he don’t have the strings there. So, it’s fourth down now.

But good tackle there by we talked about him, Nate Marshall. Yeah. Oh, and Reyes.

Yeah. And what about this? You know, you know, D, I’m looking at this the people on the extra point team.

I know people, but this I’m looking at the little stuff. I looked at all these players in there. I know this is the blue team, but this is what coaches do to get guys in the game, you know, that they have that they have plans for.

Here’s 91, a defensive lineman, you know, and this is big edupard over here.

You got two 88s in the game, you know, penalty.

Yeah. So anyway, I just I’m looking at some of the people that are on that punt that extra point protection because a lot of times that tells you know guys that the coaches want to get in the game. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah.

They want to put him on the travel squad.

They’re telling the kid they’re telling the kid, “Hey man, we got plans for you.” Okay.

That’s how I That’s Would you agree that’s how the travel squad and some of those situations worked back when we played?

Yeah, man. I can Absolutely. And if you got an up-and-comer or a guy that you have a lot of he’s got a lot of potential and you think he’s going to be a part of the squad, absolutely. They’re on the travel squad. and it’s a big deal. I could tell you I made the travel squad a few times and it says a lot.

makes you it makes you play hard because you want to make that travel squad and you want Oh, yeah.

We used to look on Thursday, man, after practice.

Did I make the travel squad? I remember seeing that, man. That’s I remember my first time traveling. I traveled to Indiana and my I opened up that page on Thursday and I looked down and I saw my name. I thought they made a mistake.

Do her baby on the on the plane. on the plane.

Okay. 99. Kanka is a faster, improved kid. He’s punching in here, showing me some pass rush. Edup coming off the edge. I like Gach. Gach is a dude that always looks for someone to smack. Yeah. Watch 74 here.

Left guard. Watch him here.

I mean, that isn’t a one-time thing. Let’s see what Ed Why did I have Edupare circled?

Oh, he’s punching 72 and just launching them back here. Yeah, Edupare. Ed like to keep contained.

Yeah, I think they blew that play dead.

That’s why he kind of But I like to see that punch on that pass rush. And it Kanka is showing us something.

Well, I like it when 74 comes over and finds somebody to hit. You know that Quenton Nelson for the Colts used to play at Notre Dame. That guy is probably the best offensive lineman in the league. And he’s just like Jumbo Elliott when we played against him. Nicest guy off the field, but as soon as he puts his cleats on the turf, he has no friends, nobody. If his mom lined up across from him, he’d beat her butt. And that’s what I’d like to see from Gach.

I’d like to see from all those guys.

Yeah. Here’s some pretty good protection. Look at Gach again playing at the line of scrimmage. No one’s getting knocked out of there.

So, that’s pretty good. good protection. Yep. What is the second down here?

I think this is a breadandbut play. This is something that I think we’re going to run a lot because it’s an easy throw. It’s bang. It picks up yards.

Yeah, but dude, I think there’s a screw up. I think there’s a screw- up on defense.

Well, okay. Right. This I’m talking about. I’m sorry. Last play. Yeah. No, the next the next one.

Okay. Look here, though. I’m wondering what the hell we’re doing on defense. 100% there’s a mistake here.

What I What’s good about this though is I think I think that you have a kid who’s in high school right now who sees it. I think they’re audibleizing here.

That’s what I’m hoping because there’s no He sees there’s nobody on the on the slot receiver. There’s nothing there.

You got a guy on this slot. Okay. But you got nothing here. Wow.

And I think Tommy and Hogan see it and he audibleizes to it and throws a quick hitter right there. Like if you’re not going to cover it, that’s what I’m hoping is what is happening there. But this is Hold on a second. Run that back real quick. Do we only one, two, do we have 11 guys on the field? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10.

Yeah, there’s four DBs back here and seven right here. There’s a guy here.

Yeah. So anyway, this is I don’t know what this is. This guy should Well, and you know, because they’re stuck with playing Cover 2, the safety probably should have come up a little bit. No sense in playing back like that.

Well, e, but the upside for me is if the defense is dumb and not lining up right, I’d like to think that maybe our quarterback saw that. You know what I mean? Yeah. Those are signs that, you know, their coaches have to say, “Well, that’s good by our young quarterback and our tight end to audible eyes like that.” And let’s get us in the right play. These are plays we already saw.

Yeah, Tommy definitely has some wheels. Yeah.

And Hansen’s got good hands, too.

This is Oh, this is first down. This is Moa. Yeah, first down. Nice catch here.

So, two things. I think Mo runs really good routes. Watch how intentionally is.

He’s going to, you know, the safety’s, he’s going to get the safety to backpaddle. Stops, comes down, sets right where it’s open, right? He doesn’t drift. He’s not floating back. He’s not floating sideways. He just He’s at his mark, which he’s supposed to do on this route. Yeah.

Got to be a better throw. But I think he runs good routes. Yeah.

And obviously he has good hands. That’s a hell of a catch.

Yeah. You know, dude, this is the kind of thing that this just comes with a comfort level with this guy and this guy. You know what I mean? Where is he gonna sit down and getting a feel for each other is just like playing basketball with each other, you know?

Yep. That’s why you know he whatever that just comes with repetition that comfort that corner play what do you see there do just I think that I can’t remember who Oh Edmond was on the defense he’s gonna throw his saber and it’s you know stow that saber away I think he interfered to be honest I Thought he got there a little early, but it doesn’t matter. It was incomplete and they didn’t call it.

About four or five more plays and we’re done.

Yeah. So, this is what I think is, if I’m on the right page here, I think this is our bread and butter.

Yep. This So, you got two receivers to the top of the field, right? The outside receiver is going to run deep and he’s going to take that corner with him. And then the slot guy’s just going to the quick out, five yard out. Bang. He’s open.

Get it to him. That’s five yards. That’s a great This is Dude, this you gota remember this is this is end of the half though.

You know, there’s only seven 20 seconds left.

I get it. But the coverage is going to be based on some of that stuff, too.

For sure situations, but they gave you the situation and we’re down on the 20 yardd line. We’re trying to move the ball closer with 16 seconds left. We’re out of bounds. We picked up more yards.

We’re closer if we need a field goal, but we’re also closer to scoring a touchdown. I just think this is a nice breadandbut style play that you should see a lot because I think it’s something Bryce can hit every single time.

Basically try to run the same play again, but this time I think he wanted to go deep, but he didn’t throw it.

But what are they doing at the same thing? They did the exact same thing. Outside receiver deep, inside receiver, five yard out.

Who’s giving us pass rush? We got a threeman front. Looks like no one’s giving us really anything. No.

Yeah, that’s good protection.

Good pickup. He’s still got a little time left.

What down is it? This is first down. He picked up the first.

This is going to be a good throw by Carr. And if you watch on the replay, it’s hard to see on the on this first view, but on the second view, I think the receivers’s got to catch this ball.

Yeah. Yeah. I’m going to slow it down here. You’ll see it. Yeah. He’s got to make this catch. This is a This is a tight window. And I think he puts it where it could be caught.

Yep.

Go get I mean, get that ball, man. Catch that ball. Use your hands. Do whatever you got to do to bring that in. Help your quarterback and help your team.

This is a touchdown.

That’s That ball’s perfectly placed. And they’re going to show on the replay here from behind. So, you’re going to see the ball go right through his hands.

Well, the next right here right here.

Yeah. I you can see it. There’s the Anyway, he’s got to make the catch.

He’s a young guy. He’s a young guy, right?

Yep. Oh, yeah. No, for sure. And that’s, you know, you’re going to you’re going to have these things happen with young guys getting their first shot.

Hey, dude, you remember playing in your first spring game, even though, you know, it’s it’s it’s it’s a good stepping stone to playing in front of 105 for sure.

So, anyway, I think that’s all we had for today. Yeah.

Did I have anything else? Let me look here. Nine lives.

Yeah, that’s it. That’s what we had for today, dude. Yep. We got We w and the boys going at it.

How about this guy? 74 San Antonio. What kind of freak is that? Anyway, I’m going to take a peek at that. We’re sad our Pistons are done. Our Wolverines are looking good. We keep watching film, finding nuggets out there. Yeah. And we’re recruiting like crazy.

And it’s good up in Whittingham is got it together and it’s all good and gold blue. That’s my final thought. Dude, any final words?

Yeah. No. So, nine lives, good to see you, too. And just like I said, we’reund I don’t know, 5 10 days away from kickoff. It’s going to fly by.

Enjoy your summer. We’re going to be back in two weeks. We’ll cover more of this film and before you know it, we’ll be talking about Western Michigan.

Dude, I gotta tell you one quick story.

So, I’m out. It was like maybe this time of year, June, maybe something like that. And this is my last year. And we’re we’re getting it’s in the summertime, you know, either guys are in school or working. It’s guy some of the guys are getting ready to go out. And I was living with Mike Hammerstein at the time. And somebody said to Hammer, “Hammer, what are you doing, man? We’re going out. Hammer, what are you doing?” And Hammer says, “I’m” They said, “What are you doing?”

Hammer says, “I’m getting ready.”

So that was like the Mike Hammerstein line because he wasn’t going out. He actually went to go for a jog, I think, at like 10 o’clock at night through the diag. So that guy, we’re going out and he and Hammer’s line was, “I’m getting ready. I’m getting ready for Notre Dame.” And he was he was one of the best players that I ever saw. I thought he was a great defensive tackle. He was so tough, man. God dang. He was made out of iron.

Very smart player. Smart. He ain’t winning. He ain’t winning no races or weight weightlifting competition, but he’s a smart good football player.

Dude, we’re out. It’s all good, man. Go Blue.

Go Blue. Love you too, Joe Blue. Thanks a lot everybody.]
