[100 degrees up here, dude. How How did we ever do it, man? You put on, you know, the gear, the helmet, you’re just dripping. You walk out on that field in that turf back in our, you know, you’re just soaked and you haven’t done anything. How did we do it, man? You know, and you think about that and you think about these guys down south. My son who lives in Wilmington, North Carolina, said it was going to be a high of 107. Phoenix, Arizona, 111, and we’re here at 99 100.

Uh, you put on, I don’t know, 20 pounds of pads running around on that astroturf field that feels like a a cast iron skillet and yeah, you just go about your business. You don’t even have to think about it cuz you can’t think about it. Get to work, get the job done, get some water, and get back at it. We were in shape, man. You know, I remember uh Bo, I’ll never play a SC uh play down south in in the early part of the year in September. I ain’t going down there when it’s, you know, my daughter went to Alabama, so of course we would drop her off and go visit her quite frequently and August when classes start.

It is stifling. I don’t know how they do it. And all I thought about when I was walking around campus when visiting her is how do these guys deal with this and everybody in the south for that matter. Yeah. Anyway, it’s great. You know, you love it as a coach now. You love this uh the strength and conditioning coaches love this weather. You know, you got to have your players ready. So, you you love this heat. Uh players are going to, you know, it is what it is, but you got to prepare. You’re going to you’re going to fight in the North Atlantic. You got to train. Dude, let’s jump on. There’s a lot of good things happening in recruiting.

Uh we got a a real good kicker, Ryan Young. Uh found him at the camp. Highly recruited kid. He’s a 2828 commit. And um the camp still matters, dude. The camp still matters. He was a highly recruited kid. So, there are some kids that that came to that one day camp. Uh so, he’s a guy that I’m happy we got. You got a couple names on your list. Why don’t you talk about some kids that that we we uh we signed? Yeah. So, the last time that we were uh on was two weeks ago. We were talking about that big Victor’s weekend that was coming up in Ann Arbor.

Couple guys there that we wanted to get to get in the camp to get on the roster here. And uh one of them was Frederick Ford. He’s a 6’4, 205 lb linebacker. Uh he’s from Mississippi. He’s got a huge wingspan, like big long arms, and of course he’s tall. He runs a 4640. He’s not afraid of contact. Uh but he’s tall and lean. Now, to me, just based on that, that sounds like a guy who may transition to the edge, you know? Yeah. Kind of like Barham. He he kind of would remind me of Barham a little bit, a thinner Barham.

Uh, and he moved out to the edge and had a really good career and now he’s in the NFL. So, this guy, just on the surface, just a little bit that I know about him, uh, that would appear to be possibly a move in the future. And then we got I I like this one a lot. We got um Weston Port. He’s another linebacker for the 2027 class with a caveat. He was actually in the 2025 recruiting class and committed to UCLA. And then right away, he took his two-year Mormon uh mission to Spain. And before that mission was up, he posted out on social media that he was opening up his recruitment.

And um he was a big fan of Michigan and he was also being recruited by UC BYU and Utah. So Wit is obviously familiar with this guy before. That kid was a big Michigan fan growing up. So, uh, we got him in the fold, which is great. So, there’s two linebackers. That rounds out the linebacker recruiting probably. And, uh, I think we got two real good guys, you know, dude. But, but also, I I can’t even remember in the Schembechler Moeller car era signing a guy on a mission. There might have been one maybe that might I just can’t think of it. So that might be something that uh you know Michigan’s in the mix.

Whit has a he understands it. Uh he’s a BYU guy. So you know you’re gonna bring guys in because I remember you know we remember playing against BYU. You know those dudes were 24 25 years old. You know so it’s a it’s a different deal but that’s good that uh Michigan is is a school that those type of kids are going to look at. You know that’s that that helps your recruiting when those kids feel comfortable with uh Michigan from that state. Well, and and with so many guys on the staff, uh, including the strength and conditioning coach, Elysia, uh, I think that makes kids who are part of that church a lot more comfortable to come this way.

They won’t feel like they’re out on an island because they’re going to have not only some coaching and and staff, but now they’re going to have some other players that are of the same religion. And I think that’s important. You don’t want to feel like you’re way away from home in every aspect. you need something that you can carry from home and bring here and you know kind of your base and I think that that’s great. There’s another guy we got too cornerback Monsanna Torbert Jr.. Okay, he’s a 5’11 180lb uh recruit out of Cincinnati. So we got him out of Ohio. I think Ohio kids know how to play football.

Uh we were in on that Dobson and if we weren’t getting Dobson or or you know whatever happened, this Torbert was uh plan one B and so we got him and uh you said you watched a little bit of his film and you came away pretty impressed. Oh my god, dude. I’m going to tell you this kid this kid has a fivestar rating, right? Four. Okay. Well, he’s this kid is something else. I’m thinking I’m looking at Charles Woodson. He’s he’s playing against fast athletic kids and he this guy’s he steps on campus. They’re going to have to deal with him. They’re going to have, you know, he’s a player. That that’s an athletic fast kid.

So, Whit is uh that’s a good that’s a good snag stealing a kid from Ohio, man. Right. Yeah. And uh and positions that you as a freshman, right? When he gets here in 2027, look who we’re losing off of the roster, right? Yeah. We’re gonna have some holes to fill in the defense, especially at cornerback. And so it’s good to get these guys, highly rated guys playing in Ohio. He’s down there in Cincinnati. Cincinnati plays some really good football. And so this guy’s going to have an opportunity as a freshman. Quarterbacks, freshman quarterbacks are are one of the positions that they could absolutely step in on the field. They have athlete, you know, they’re athletic, they got speed.

Got to teach them a little technique. But yeah, good pickup. You know, he definitely looked past my test. I just looked at I didn’t see need to see more five six plays. Uh speaking of stealing a kid from Ohio, we Oregon came in here. Oregon’s mixing it up in Michigan, dude. You know, Dante Moore, Dante Moore is out there. He’s a Detroit kid, man.

And uh you know, they people talk, man. all the coaches know each other and there’s a there’s something going on where these guys are getting a comfort level coming into into Detroit coming into Michigan cuz cuz country day Detroit country day big tight end uh big good-looking athletic kid uh he’s going to Oregon he’s from right down the street over here Detroit country day and I don’t like seeing that seeing guys big- time players go uh somewhere else but I just I had to mention it because we got to lock our stuff down man well you know and and football recruiting is a lot different these days. Now you add in NIL where you can actually look for a deal.

But Oregon is a known entity, right? It’s been a popular place with kids for a long time. They got a great facility. It’s a beautiful part of the country. So, um, throw in some money and a winning tradition and a good coach in Lanning and, you know, kids will go, “Look, we just got a kid from Mississippi.” And I think we’ve actually got we might have had three or four players from the state of Mississippi in our history, and I think there’s going to be a couple few of them on this year’s or next year’s squad. Recruiting is nationwide for everybody.

Go out and find the best athlete. try to make the best deal and get them into wherever you can and that’s what uh that’s what everybody’s doing right now with doing it as well. Okay. So anyway, we talked about more the Mormon. We want to be able to be have comfort comfortable a comfortable comfort level there. We’ve got to I think we have a good rep with the African kids. We’ve signed a lot of Kwity Paye type dudes, German guys. Got a lot of German football and basketball players. That that’s a good thing for Michigan.

Hey, don’t forget to hit them comments, uh, thumbs up, uh, tell us how much you love us, and and me, let me tell you, do and I, we really like, uh, when you get after it with us. If you disagree with us, those are the comments that I like is if you say, you know what, you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, right? You know, it it’s you’re allowed, man. We appreciate it. You are allowed to get in our face. Uh, dude, how about the how about the uh we got a sponsor, man. Talk to us. We’re big time, baby. We’re big time. We made it, mom. We made it. We did get a sponsor. OLIPOP. All right.

Listen. I watch what I put in my body. I work out four or five times a week. I know you work out a bunch. My wife and I There you go. Look at you. My wife and I, we don’t drink traditional sodas in the house. We don’t We don’t give it to our kids or we didn’t give it to our kids. We’re definitely not giving it to our grandson. So, we watched what we put in our mouth and because we don’t drink pop or traditional sodas, we got this OLIPOP sent to us and I was kind of, well, I don’t drink pop, so am I going to be This stuff is great, right?

It’s good for uh when I get done working out, I’m looking for some hydration, right? And I’m not going to put anything in there. I’ve had my uh protein shake and all that stuff. I want something that tastes good. OLIPOP tastes good. Uh there’s a bunch of different flavors. You like cream soda, we got it. You like cherry cola, we got it. Classic root beer. You want to have I’m I’m old school. I’m a root beer guy, man. I was pounding that root beer, man. Have yourself a root beer float. But my favorite is the lemon lime. I’m telling you, it’s delicious. And it promotes and it supports a healthy digestive system. It’s non-GMO. All right.

I said it’s good because it it truly genuinely is good. Look at the ingredients on this. You’re not going to find uh corn syrup or a bunch of things you can’t pronounce. There’s a lot of natural ingredients on this. Uh it tastes great. Uh I’m excited about it. I probably had I don’t know six or eight of them since I got this last week. Right. And I’m gonna have another one tonight because after this I said I watch what I put in my body. But I do have some days where I feel like it’s okay to have a little something.

Tonight we’re going to have a root beer float with my OLIPOP root beer and some ice cream my wife bought. That’s living do. There you go. That’s so great. We got them. I got some pops here. Anyway, we we’re uh we’re fired up that uh they’re on board with us. Speaking of sponsor due, uh Wisconsin, everybody’s got to get that money, man. You gotta get that bread. They’re putting uh Culver’s, you know, the restaurant Culver’s. They got good ice cream over there, too, right? And uh they’re putting a patch on their uh on their jersey. So, what do you know what would look good on Michigan’s jersey? OLIPOP. There you go. U any What do you think about that, man?

Are we going to be Are we going to be looking like NASCAR drivers out there soon? What What do you think? Now, that ties into a conversation we’re going to have here in a little bit. When we talk about Dusty May departing, which, you know, if you want to get into that now, I am certain, you know, it’s happened. People have had a chance to digest it. Uh, everybody’s got an opinion about it. Of course, disappointed that we only got two years of Dusty May. He seemed like a guy who was absolutely the guy that could bring Michigan basketball to a really healthy state competitive and competing for national championships. So disappointed in that.

Um what are you going to do though? This guy is a competitor like nobody’s business. He wakes up trying to beat his wife in silly things. Who can get to the car first? you know who who can open up this jar of s whatever he competes and a guy like that in a profession like basketball he wants to coach at the highest level he turned down some he said all the right things to Warde Warde said right after the national championship we got a new contract for him just needs signatures and uh Dusty went to Warde before any of that and there was a couple of NBA positions open and he said, “You got nothing to worry about.

I’m not going anywhere.” He said publicly, “My son Eli is a sophomore in college and I can’t see myself leaving before he graduates.” But the contract didn’t get signed and uh then Dallas comes calling. He goes down there on a Friday and by Sunday he’s the new coach. And he said that that place just checked off all the boxes. It’s a good ownership and leadership team. Uh, it’s got a good roster. He’s got Cooper Flagg. He’s got a chance to coach a really great young basketball player. And like he said, it just checked all the boxes. How do you fault a guy for taking that job? Yeah, absolutely. Do you know just real quick, you were talking about the ads.

Well, this comes to, you know, if the if if Michigan puts ads on their jerseys, people are going to lose their mind and they want Warde gone already, they’re going to that’ll be the last straw. And, you know, I’ve been a Warde defender, right? What was he supposed to do with Jim? You know, I can understand people being upset. There was a lot of things that went on in the football and basketball and hockey building uh on his watch and and I don’t like him any any more than anybody else does. But when it comes to Dusty May, what is he supposed to do? Right. You can’t hold a gun to his head.

You can’t say, “Well, listen, if you don’t sign this contract by the end of the week, we’re going to pull it.” What’s that going to do? That would have made Dusty go out the door faster. Um, I just there’s been some good thing, some really good things. We got a national championship in football. We got a national championship in basketball. We got a great hockey coach. Uh, we got a good football coach now. We’re going to expect him to be great. Uh, the basketball team just came off a title. We’re in a good spot and I understand people’s frustrations, but man, if they put if they put an ad on the jersey, people are going to be pissed. Yeah.

Well, you know, do I tell you I don’t we don’t know how much NIL support we’re getting. Okay. Uh Whit knows when he goes ahead to recruit against Ohio State and Oregon and Notre Dame, he knows what the numbers are. Okay. So when if there’s talk about putting something on the jersey, this that or whatever, if we’re I I don’t know if we’re getting beat financially, you know what I mean? And if if there’s certain kids where that starts to happen. So I I guess what I’m saying is, you know, if we’re starting to get beat for kids, then maybe some of that stuff has to happen, you know, the jersey type thing.

So, and and I don’t know that I would blame Warde, but So, let’s let’s use this uh Dobson uh kid, this recruit, right? Five-star cornerback. We were making a big push for him and he was liking what we were selling, right? But then Texas A&M came in and Texas A&M threw a lot of money at him and people started predicting that, oh, okay, this kid’s going to go to Texas A&M. Well, guess what happens? South Carolina of all places. South Carolina comes in with a giant bag. And now all of a sudden the predictions are coming in for him to go to South Carolina.

Even Texas A&M of all the teams in the country probably Texas A&M is going to lose out on a bidding war for a kid. Seems unlikely, but that is today’s game. Yeah. Anyway, let me get uh let me get some other thoughts on basketball. Okay. So, Bo, uh, Boon is the guy. Okay. The number one test, you know, dude, I took over a program that was down. Okay. Let’s get everybody on board. First of all, let’s get everybody committed. If he can, if he can do that, get everybody committed that is signed and, you know, everybody’s money is straightened out.

Dusty had everybody’s money figured out, signed, agreed upon their role, and and you got to believe Boon was the number one recruiter. He was right there in the mix on everything. So, if he can get everybody committed and signed, that is a huge that that should give everybody a a huge grade of enthusiasm, a a huge level of confidence and enthusiasm number one there. So, that’s what I want to say about him. He’s got to show he can do that. Then my thoughts about Dusty Doo. Again, I was a I was a head high school coach, had success. And you always want to look at that other challenge, too.

And there’s so many things that go on that people people will never know. And Dusty only shared a couple crumbs. Believe me when I tell you there’s there’s 20 reasons, and he threw out a couple for us about his wife being close to an airport. Okay? There’s a lot of reasons why guys do it. Okay? And I tell people part of it is like remember when you’re a kid, your old man buys you one of them little model cars to put together, glue it together. Yeah. You know, it’s a certain kind of challenge. Well, after that, you do that one. Guess what? You want a bigger one, right? You want that bigger model car. So, that’s part of it.

Um I think NIL, he touched on it, but you know, dude, he’s got an opportunity to go from five, six million to 15 million generation. not only his kids but his grandkids will be et. So he has a chance for generational wealth. Um you know and and that new challenge man and obviously he liked the people there. Um but uh you know he’s built it. He gave Michigan confidence again and it it’s uh the you know Boon has got he’s he’s in place. He’s got he’s we got enthusiasm. There’s players and he he’s just got to keep it going man. But I would, you know, that’s my big thing is cuz I I was that guy, dude.

And and sometimes you just want uh you want to build a different car, man. You’re tired of that one, that little one. You want to you want to take on another ch and that’s re that’s real for anybody in any line of work, dude. Business, everybody. We all want to get that next promotion, that new challenge, you know. So, well, so McKenna has said that he’s returning. Um, who else? Uh, Cadeau. Yeah, Cadeau said he’s returning. And then the recruit, the big guy from Cincinnati, Thiam. Yeah, Thiam. Moustapha Thiam. He’s he’s reconfirmed his commitment. So that’s good. We got a couple of comments in the in the chat.

Um Christopher Robbins asked, “Does Warde survive as AD?” So there is a uh there was an investigation, right? And that is finishing up. There’s going to be a report. It’s not going to be very flattering for a lot of people. And I’m assuming that Warde is one of those people. It’s not very flattering. But they’re going to look at all of correspondence, meetings, phone calls, emails, everything. Did Warde know about something and neglect to do anything or did he take a proactive stance? For instance, in the Sherrone Moore saga, like they said that they had brought both of the people in and interviewed them. Both of them denied anything was going on.

Uh they said that they looked into it, didn’t find anything. Turns out there was there was something there and either they didn’t miss they missed it or those two buried it really well. Um, you know, Dusty leaves, Eric Bakich leaves, Jim Harbaugh leaves, the Mel Pearson uh investigation that basically just kind of sat on a desk for a while and then didn’t nothing happened until that report became public. Matt Weiss, Connor Stalions, John Beilein walked away. Uh, those are all negative things. Now, let’s look at some positive things, right? Championships, some good coaches, uh, athletic department that’s healthy, one of the biggest in the country. Michigan remains, you know, I don’t care what opposing fans think, Michigan draws eyes.

Whether you hate them or love them, Michigan is one of the big, look at all the numbers that we see for games. They have millions and millions of views. They’re one of the top drawing teams in the country. and Warde’s in charge of that. So, really depends on Chris what’s in that report. I I would bet I bet everything I got he survives, dude. What’s that? I’d bet every nickel I own, he survives. Yeah, that’s how I feel about it. I mean, yeah, there’s a lot of He mentioned a lot of things, but I don’t I just think he’s going to make it because he’s he’s had some good coaches that have done some good things.

One last comment about Dusty and I know it as a coach. I remember hearing Jack Harbaugh. He had that sign on Jim’s door. Just coach the team. You remember that sign that Jim had that that come from old man Jack cuz I remember hearing Jack say that and I know it as a coach. Okay. I don’t want to deal with all this BS teachers. You got a problem with a teacher or you got a problem with this, your money ain’t right or you got a problem with you’re getting the kids. You know what I mean? I don’t want to hear none of that BS. I want to coach.

I want I want to get my coaches ready and get my players ready to beat the enemy. I don’t want to deal with a bunch of mumbo jumbo and and he mentioned that. Yeah. That he just wants to coach the team and and in the NBA everybody got the same amount of money and he’s not you know it’s so so there’s a that statement I totally understand it and I that was my that’s going to be my last comment on Dusty.

Yeah, it’s uh you know you and he does just want to coach the team and one of the things that he uh you know the nature of basketball right now and he there was there’s been reported uh I think it was Dylan Burkhardt by U of M hoops or hoops and Dylan was interviewing him right in his office and uh Dusty gets a call from a big-time recruit and it was uh the third time the kid had reaffirmed confirmed his commitment to Dusty, right? Yeah. Dusty hangs up the phone. Dylan Burkhardt says, “Well, congratulations. That’s a big get.” And Dusty just chuckled and said, “It’s not over.

Wait till the agents get in.” And sure enough, the agents got in and this they asked for double what Yaxel Lendeborg earned last year. And they’re just like, “No, no, it’s not happening.” So, he went someplace else. Yeah. We we don’t know what he deals with. That’s all I can say as a former coach. We don’t have any idea of all the headaches that come to his plate in his desk every day. Yeah. And that and that goes for people who want Warde out out the door. You don’t know what came across his desk. You don’t know what he knew, how he handled it, how he dealt with Jim, how he handled Dusty. Uh all of those things.

You just We don’t have that information. He could have been on his hands and knees begging Dusty to come back, offered to pay him more. You don’t know that he didn’t do that. Now, some people like it doesn’t matter what he did or didn’t do. The end result is Jim Bakich, Beline, Dusty have all left. Well, next man up. That’s right. That’s all you got to do. Next. We don’t rebuild, we reload. Do Are you ready for some film, man? Yeah, I just want to get in uh any other comments. Ty Lord Ty Lord Honey’s green uh message here. A bunch of winning around I think he meant whining. A bunch of whining around Michigan.

Some people are just never happy. And that you know Tyler you are right. Some people wake up in the morning and if they didn’t have something to complain about they complain about that. Tired of winning dude. They’re tired of winning. We That was a line we used to I used to use as a coach when I’d see a guy who ran really good stuff and they were productive and they were tough to defend and they were tough to beat and then he wants to change what he’s doing and then he’s terrible. And I’d say to my coaches, guy’s tired of winning, man. He wants to be cute. He saw it on He saw the Lions run this stuff.

So now he wants to be cute. He’s tired of winning. That’s my Anyway, dude, we’re on the film, man, because we we love the film. We only got about 10 plays. But again, the You want to know what the hell Michigan is? You know, we got to look at this film to figure out where we’re at. Who’s going to be who’s going to be stepping up? You got the film due? Yep. Got it up. Okay. So, where are we at here? Okay. This is Young Herbstreit in the game. Now, I saw this kid play, do he played with our buddy uh he played with Eric Hatis’ son. I saw him play in high school down at King.

Yeah. and and he’s a he’s an athletic kid. I mean, the old man was fast and athletic. This kid is fast. He’s athletic. He’s got a little weird uh throwing motion, but I saw him play for Xavier and beat King real good. He’s a tough, athletic kid. Uh and I’m glad he’s with us. Is he a guy that’s going to, you know, I’m just glad he’s with us. He’s going to be a kid that in three, four years, who knows what he’s going to be when he’s a senior. Um, I really like this run support here by this uh this corner here, this safety player. I don’t know what the hell kind of stunt.

These guys are running in each other, this D lineman and this linebacker here. And then we don’t really contain the football. I I don’t like seeing defenses where there’s nobody containing out there. You know what I mean, dude? Yep. They bit hard. But, you know, you’re on the you’re on the one yard line. You are thinking safety. You’re pinning your ears back. You want a safety in the worst way and sometimes you abandon your responsibilities and that’s what happens at the top up there. Anyway, this kid this kid plays this good here. He kind of cat and mouses that thing. Anyway, Herbstreit is an athletic kid. Uh not looking to compete the next two years, but you know what?

Years three or four due, I mean, you never know. You know what I mean? 100%. A guy that isn’t going to be in the portal every year. You don’t have to worry about him. Uh, but I was impressed with him when I saw him play in high school. Okay, D, you got this one here. What do you see here? All right, second and six. They got the edge on there. Uh, our boy 94 there is that um he’s in he’s in between. See, I don’t understand the defense, dude. He’s he’s a five he’s a seven technique. He’s inside the tight end. So he’s a C gap player. He’s responsible for this gap.

You can’t ask him to contain if he’s a C gap player and the safety has the alley. Yeah. I think it’s the linebacker more that the linebacker has to uh he has to read, you know, he he’s a the linebacker, this player is a A gap player, this player’s a C gap player, this player is a B to D gap player. Well, how the responsibility is on this particular defense. Also, the cornerback doesn’t help. The cornerback gives the outside edge. You can’t let anybody outside of you. And the cornerback did that. If he takes away the outside, get outside. See how he got nosy inside. Yeah. Stay outside that block and let your safety trust your safety.

Trust that he’s going to come up and take the alley like he’s supposed to. Yeah. And what you want from this guy here, D, you want this guy to eat up this double team and play here at the line of scrimmage. Absolutely. This This is not a great job by Marshall here. He’s got to be tough and strong and eat up this double team and not let this tight end come off. And if he does, if he does come off, then you make the play. It’s one of the two. So, you know, our our offense moved this young defense around at the end. This is not great by uh Yeah. Well, that’s not a great play by Marshall.

He kind of Not at all. He shows good things on the pass game. He’s I got I want to see him play the run, too, though. You know, he can definitely come off the edge and beat people. Yeah, I met, you know, dude, I met this guy when I when I went to see Eric’s, our buddy was good friends with him and he was a great guy, man. Humble dude, nice guy. Just, you know, he’s done a great job. I mean, think about his career and what he’s done after football and he’s probably the biggest face and name uh in uh in college football. He’s done a hell of a job and he’s always shown class.

He’s always been a good listen, smart guy. I got no problem with him. Yeah. You know, my my level of uh analyst is pretty high. You got to be pretty good to to get my respect. And he he does understand line play, secondary play. So, he he is someone that is is uh he gets my respect. Anyway, I don’t like our defense here. We’re getting knocked off the ball. Uh I like the effort by the quarterback. I like I like the tight end blocking this. But these three dudes on offense are waxing these dudes. These three guys are getting waxed. Uh I don’t know what the hell this corner is doing, but you know, dude, you watch this.

Uh you know, you you got movement here, man. Look, look how they’re getting knocked off the ball. You know, these two guys, look where they end up. I mean, but this is the same thing we talked about. This guy is a C gap. Let’s see where we’re at. This player here is he’s he’s responsible for uh that is the B gap C gap and then now we’re here. It looks like he’s working inside control too. So well he gets again gets nosy. Now these are pro I don’t know who I can’t see the number. Who is it? 20. I don’t know. Anyway, they’re just getting knocked off the ball. These three dudes are that ain’t good enough.

This is This is If I’m coaching offense, I’m happy. If I’m coaching defense, I’m like, “What the hell is this? This ain’t We ain’t beating Oklahoma with this. That ain’t 20 out there. Who is that?” Yeah, they’re getting knocked off the ball. All them. Look at that. All them dudes are getting waxed. And then this guy, the corner got nosy, man. Listen, I used to I always taught my guys exactly what Moeller and Milo used to say. We’re going to build a brick wall. There’s a gap. Everybody has a gap. You take your gap, do your job, your responsibility, and trust that your other guys are going to do their job.

If you’re an outside corner or edge, and you have contain, you cannot peek inside. Period. You can’t peek inside because you have to stay outside. Nobody outside the defense. And the corner out there got nosy, tried to peek inside that block, and he got cooked. Yeah. Yeah, you know, D, I was looking, we got the 1964 game, uh, film. I I talked to two guys from that team and and the the quarterbacks in the offensive scheme in 1964, they were blocking. They would pitch the ball and they would lead with the guards out there blocking. Herbstreit’s out here blocking, man. JJ that in the Big Ten Big Ten championship game in 2021 against Iowa.

Big long run by Corum and then JJ sprinted downfield and got a little bit of a block to spring him to the end zone. You’re right. All right. What are you What are you seeing here, dude? Uh again, somebody cutting inside. Is that Marshall again? Who’s out here on the wide nine? 93. 93. That’s Hunter Robinson. Yeah. See, dude, I think that’s I think this is how they’re coaching it, though. I think they have Listen, I think they have a That’s Benny Patterson. Yeah. I think they they have different schemes, different, you know, different times you’re going to ask you’re going to be asked to bounce it and sometimes you’re going to squeeze it.

And this is uh this is one of them times where he’s outside and he’s got they want him to wrong arm it or bounce it, however terminology they have, but you know, I don’t think we do the same thing every single time. It’s part of the scheme. No, for sure. If you’re doing a scrape exchange like this. Yeah. See, these guys are uh he’s in here, so I Yeah. Go ahead. There’s scrape exchange and so you’re right, the outside guy is going to take the inside gap and then the linebacker is exchanging outside and he’s going to be the contained guy. That’s right. Exactly. And the offense uh you know they don’t do a great job here. This is tough.

Good play by the backer there. Yeah. See, you can see the linemen. They’re yet looking at each other. See these two offensive linemen? Look at them. Yeah. Because they were pulling from the front. They’re like they’re like, “What the hell’s going on, man?” See, he’s got to read this thing. What’s he doing? He He comes, you kick him, he hangs, you got to hook him. And uh the the end played it decent. But yeah, the lead puller has to be better. 70 has to be better. Yeah, that’s our uh that’s our guy Norton from last year who started at guard. Yeah, he’s got to be better there.

Um this is that’s the end of the third quarter going into the fourth where championships are won. Yeah. Um, so the conditioning is um, you know, we talked about it, dude. Uh, you know, I met uh, I met the strength coach at practice and you know, he’s he does things that he doesn’t go by uh, you know, we’re going to do this and and if he sees his thinks his team is is tired and needs rest, he might just say, you know what, guys, we’re go home. You know what I mean? He doesn’t he doesn’t go by a set structured, you know, we lift four days, we run two, you know what I mean?

He modifies it based on what he believes. Anyway, here’s uh here’s uh Browder here. Got to make this catch. Yeah, this one there is no excuse. It’s right there in your hands. Catch the ball. Yeah. And I don’t know what this guy’s doing. Celebrating. Uh Chukqua. Yeah, Jeffrey Jukewell, you know, I mean, I don’t know what you’re talking, you know, over here like you did something. The guy got blew right by you. Um, yeah. Well, as long as they don’t catch the ball, defensive backs like to Yeah. Well, you know, I I want to be celebrating, you know, you got he got beat. Uh, I’m I’m looking. There’s a nice throw by our quarterback.

I’m looking at our guard pole here and Seal on this the the front side. He’s got to get there and meet this guy. 66 has got to get here and meet him. You can’t sit back here and get ne blasted into the quarterback. Who is 66? 66 is Oh, Terboy. That’s our guy. Terboy. Yeah, he there’s a good job by the edge player here smashing him right into the quarterback. I mean, that’s what you want to do there. Try to But he still makes a nice throw and you just got to catch the ball. Take a take a deep breath and it’s right there, man. It’s a wellthrown ball.

Terboy is a guy that was playing a different sport at Michigan now. Oh, he was on the track and field team. He was the shot put thrower and uh coaches found him on campus, had a chat with him, asked him, “Hey, you want to play some football?” And he said, “Yes.” Oh, we we know about that. Coaching high school football, dude. You always walk in the halls. I was recruiting. Hey man, the kid with the tuba. Hey man, you look good with a you you could play some offensive tackle. I’ll let you play the tuba at halftime. I really like this play uh by this player here.

Uh he is really really these are the little things that people that play defense and coach defense that the amount of time it takes you to react makes a difference. I know this is your play dude, but watch Go ahead. Talk about this play. Go ahead. Well, I mean, just watch this player. Watch. I mean, this is not a predetermined stunt, okay? I was looking at it. I’m like, man, is this a predetermined stunt? How fast this player right here reacts? Get his I got to get his number, but Okay, look at the whole This is what smart football players are looking at. Okay, they’re looking at, okay, it’s second and 10. Okay, that tells you something.

He’s looking at the the formation. What does Michigan like to do in this formation? So, he’s thinking about all of those things. He’s looking at down and distance, formation, which players are in the game, where are they lined up, why are they lined up like that, what are their splits? There’s something that he’s sniffing out. Smart players are looking at all this pre- snap stuff to figure out what the hell are they going to run. Okay, now just I’m going to go real slow and watch how quick he react he reacts, dude. Okay, the ball is in the air. It’s It’s just The ball just got snapped. It’s It’s in the air. It’s right here.

And he’s already Now he’s starting to react. The quarterback is just getting the football and he’s already starting to break. What does he see, dude? What the heck does he see? Well, and and look at how fast he reacts. The ball is still in the quarterback’s hand and he’s reacting. But this is how you win football games. It’s pre- snap, being smart, killing a play before they even ran it. Is that And ready? Yeah, we got to get his name because I mean this is like Nico Andrew Andrew. Yeah. Yeah. Nico, he’s been around a while. I just I just think, you know, you want to know how you you win. You got the little things is how you win.

You you out scout people. You for what’s he doing? What’s a formation? What’s a down in distance? Why is he look at this break he’s getting on the football? He smashes that receiver, the tight end, and and then we they get nothing. I I just I liked it. I like seeing smart guys. You get that. You know, when you got a guy that’s played a lot of football, you get that. And that’s why upper classmen generally perform better uh because they’ve seen things, they’ve read things, they’ve watched film, they’ve uh you know, got a lot of reps under their belt. Yeah. Dude, this is the last play here. I don’t know if you had it.

We’re in the We’re in the three-man front here. So, here’s a three-man front. It’s third and nine. with uh 34 look. You know these they like to drop. They like to play zone here. What are you seeing here? He likes that spy, dude. This is not something, you know, we talked about. This is not something Michigan has run a lot of. And he’s got he’s got I’m liking the linebacker right at the 40 at the top of the screen. I like the way looking up the receiver. And look, he comes off of it because his guy’s leaving the zone. When somebody when you’re in zone coverage, if somebody’s leaving, somebody else is coming. Okay?

So, the slot receiver coming into the zone is leaving. That means somebody’s coming. And he looks up and he sees the outside receiver, the number one. We call that the number one. The slot guy would be number two. So, two left, one’s coming. And he picked it up. That was a great play. Head on a swivel, right, D? Absolutely. Head on a swivel. That’s a terminology the coaches use is look at look at this guy. Head on a swivel, feeling here, feeling here, feeling the quarterback. You got to feel all that stuff. I’m telling you, this is clearly much better linebacker play in coverage than I’ve seen in I don’t know how long. I’m not kidding you.

A lot of times our backers would just drop back. Hey, you got hooked to curl. Okay, so he drops back five yards and gets outside of two yards and covers grass. That doesn’t do anybody any good. Yeah. You got to cover a zone, but you got to cover a guy coming into that zone. Yeah. You dude, there’s two things that I I have seen that I believe are our offensive linemen are getting downfield and nasty finishing blocks. That is a difference with Harding. I see that. And I really, really like our run support. When you see it, when you see a couple plays here and there, no, I’m seeing it. I’m seeing it. It’s emphasized.

Uh when when I see a kid break on the football like that, they’re they’re coaching the little things, man. And those those breaks on the football and that run support, I’m seeing run. So the secondary coaches are doing a good job of teaching run support, right? Recognizing run. You got to go from run to pass, pass to, you know, what is it? You know, is it a run? Is it a pass? And then once you recognize it, come up and run support. And I’m I’m I’m seeing those two things for sure. and guys who have been around, guys who, like I just said, had seen things, so they’re experienced with it, they’re now reacting. You’re not thinking, you’re reacting.

And there there’s a lot of reaction going on. And I’ve seen better edge edge play. Uh, and I’ve seen better linebacker play. And those two things are super important because I thought that they were lacking in some regards in the past. And so Hill, man, I’m looking, we talked about what are we looking forward to this year and everybody wants to jump to offense and of course Bryce, but man, I I’m looking to that defense because I think the defense is going to have to carry us for a while. And if you’ve got a good defense that’s flying around, they’re fundamentally sound, they all have the responsibilities, they do their job, you’re going to be in every game.

And you know, I I used to tell my players all the time, offense is easy. You could screw around, stubble your toe, you could do nothing all game. Get one play, score a touchdown on a bomb or whatever, and you could win. On defense, we could stuff them every single down. If we make a mistake on one play, we can lose. So on my from my perspective, I’m sure from yours as a defensive guy, defense is where it’s at. And uh I like what I’m seeing. Got to get uh man, camp starts in what? Couple weeks. Camp starts. They’re dude, they’re they’re going in it might even be next week.

Listen, I’m going to we’ll finish up the spring game in a couple weeks, but we’re going to look at some Nicolosi film. I’m going to get some Colorado State and we’re going to break him down and and have a better idea of of what we got at quarterback with, you know, we know we got three guys that can play and he’s a runner and and we’re fired up, dude. We’re we’re coming down and the the clock is ticking getting uh getting ready for the for the for the long haul, man. That’s my final comment. It’s all good. Go Blue, Coach Boon.

Coach Boon, keep them here, baby. recruit these players and that’ll that’ll set the tone that you’re our guy if you don’t finish that. Close the deal. Yeah. Keep close the deal. Keep the players. Get them focused on what’s upcoming, not what’s happened in the past. Football. Get ready. Season starts in two months, right? And the rest of you get some OLIPOP, baby. That’s right. They’re they’re going to the hotel, man. Air conditioning. We were sweating in the dorm. Oh my god, it was so Anyway, man, those dorms were hot. Oh my miserable. Hated them. As hell, dude. I’m over now.]
